Indigenous Knowledge for Climate Resilience: Mick and Victor Read Country

Plumtree Station's Mick Kingham and Victor Steffensen– Tagalaka man and Firesticks Co-founder – discuss healing sick agricultural landscapes with Cultural Fire. For many graziers in QLD, inviting Traditional Owners onto their land for Cultural Burning is a relatively new concept. But Mick is willing to see how this time-tested Indigenous land management practice can improve the landscape by removing weeds that are choking up the grazable area. Supported by the Australian Government's Climate-Smart Agriculture Program, this project champions First Nations knowledge to enhance the health of agricultural landscapes, benefiting landholders and community members alike. We're seeing how Cultural Burning can be integrated into modern grazing practices, improving profitability and sustainability.
