Following the destructive wildfires in Southeast Australia in the summer of 2019-2020, Yuin Walbanja knowledge-holder Noel Webster reflects on the health of Country at a significant place where the edge of land culturally burned in 2018, met the heat of the wildfires 18 months later.

“It’s through applying a cultural fire practice we’ve created a fire science for Western management and approach and understanding for fire suppression. And it’s through this interaction, that we hope we can merge and create a knowledge system where we can provide healthy landscapes through Indigenous knowledge and fire practice. Through Western science they talk about fire triangle and the interactions of that triangle. But with cultural fire practice, it’s holistic and it’s a circle, a holistic relationship.”
